FGM

At Gorsefield, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a form of child abuse and violence against women and girls. It involves the deliberate cutting, injuring or altering of female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is illegal in the UK.

FGM can have serious and lifelong physical and emotional consequences. As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, all staff receive training to recognise potential signs and risk factors and to respond appropriately to any concerns. We work closely with families and partner agencies to ensure that children are protected and supported.

If we believe that a child may be at risk of FGM, or has undergone the procedure, we have a statutory duty to follow safeguarding procedures and seek support from the appropriate agencies.

At Gorsefield, we are committed to creating a culture where children feel safe, are listened to and know that trusted adults are available to help them. If you have any concerns about a child, please contact a member of our safeguarding team.

In addition to Mrs Paice and Mrs Ireland, the following staff are also DSL trained:

Mrs Onyekaba: Head Teacher

Mr Brannigan: Digital Strategy and Computing Lead.
